LMS selection

The selection of a Learning Management System is often a policy decision for an organisation as prudent purchasing will save a great deal of time and resources across an organisation for years to come. Key things to help you decide are:
  1. Freeware? There are some really effective Learning Management Systems available as freeware from the web. Before committing, check the cost of hosting and customisation – you may end up paying more than you think! Freeware may not be a good long-term decision as, by its very nature no one is paid to develop a roadmap to improve the product and keep pace with new learning methods and technologies.
  2. Big is not always beautiful. Organisations that have in excess of 30,000 employees may well already have large and comprehensive HR systems with seemingly ‘bolt on’ Learning Management Systems. Before purchasing, check whether a simpler or more user-friendly system could do the job equally well, this may save you considerable money.
